This organisation is a household name across New Zealand and deals with thousands of customers and hundreds of suppliers and a huge SKU range. They are innovative, agile and have challenged many of the norms of product assembly and distribution models.

They pride themselves on delivering a quality product and service with an emphasis on safety and customer satisfaction. The business has grown exponentially over recent years, and the expectations of their compliance pertaining to Food Safety and Health & Safety has risen as they continue to strive to perform above industry standards, requirements and the industry norm. As such an experienced, driven and passionate Compliance Manager is sought to lead, drive and execute Food Safety, HSE and Compliance across this multi-site business.

The opportunity

Reporting to the COO you will be responsible for the day-to-day operation and strategy of Compliance. The scope of the role is incredibly broad and you will be able to demonstrate your ability to manage multiple priorities, problem-solve and take on the responsibility for managing a diverse range of tasks. The key mission of the role is to keep customers, and their people safe through the establishment of SOPs that eliminate or mitigate operating risks.

Broadly, the scope of your role will include, though not be limited to

Food Safety

Health & Safety

Managing relationships, including with MPI

Oversee the suppliers – ensuring legal and industry standards (pertaining to Food Safety and HSE) are met or exceeded

Carry out Continuous Improvement initiatives

Audit – both systems/processes and company/supplier distribution and manufacturing sites

Compliance reporting and ensuring regular communication with suppliers, partners, the SLT and external bodies & marketing

Work closely with the SLT including regular reports, presentations and contributing to the operational planWhat’s in it for you

This is an opportunity where you will have genuine leadership responsibility. From managing the day-to-day operations of Compliance in a fast-paced, multi-site agile environment through to developing more effective ways to improve Food and Health & Safety standards.

A background in an FMCG or food environment would be a key advantage. It is likely you have a background or qualification in Food Science (or similar) and have experience in both Food Safety and HSE. You will report directly to the COO and have one direct report (a Health & Safety Specialist), so you will enjoy a mix of leadership, hands-on application and also setting and executing strategies.

An excellent communicator, leader and team player with proven interpersonal, influencing and organisational skills, you must demonstrate a logical and continuous improvement approach, with the ability to use own initiative with problem-solving and decision-making skills in order to achieve results. High levels of attention to detail and accuracy are required and you should have a flexible and proactive working attitude towards all cross-business areas.
