About the Company

Eat My Lunch is a social enterprise on a mission to ensure that no kiwi kid goes hungry at school.

In the last 5 years they have experienced massive growth and using a ‘Buy One. Give One’ model, they’ve made and delivered over 1.5 million lunches to customers and Given another 1.6 million lunches to kiwi kids in need. They currently provide ~2,000 lunches every school day to kids in Auckland and Wellington.

Eat My Lunch has won a tender for the Government’s Ka Ora, Ka Ako | Healthy School Lunches Programme, with the contract set to enable the business to provide lunches for approximately 16,500 Kiwi kids a day from next year, equating to 3.3 million lunches provided for children in 2021.

The announcement follows the last budget round, in which the Government committed to feeding 200,000 children a day in New Zealand in 2021 via a universal school lunch programme, an area of particular focus as many households experience heightened financial stress due to the impacts of COVID-19. The Eat My Lunch agreement will see the social enterprise providing lunches to schools across the Auckland and Wellington regions from Term 1 next year. Eat My Lunch are on the hunt for values based individuals with a can do attitude that want to be part of making a HUGE difference to Kiwi kids.

About the Role

The purpose of the Auckland Kitchen Manager (Government) is to lead, recruit, train and coach a high performing team in meeting Eat My Lunch’s core business needs.

Reporting to the Head of Operations, your role is critical to the success of their Government Ka Ora, Ka Ako | Healthy School Lunches Programme so you will be calm and cool under pressure with a high level of resilience.

You will coordinate and carry out the functions necessary to ensure EML products are manufactured and packed to the highest standard and in accordance with the company’s Food Safety Plan and product specifications, ensuring the products reach customers on time and in premium condition.

In addition to the day to day operations, you will assist to develop and implement strategic solutions.

Main responsibilities include

Lead a team of roughly one hundred and twenty-five (125) individuals and recruit, train and coach new hires

Schedule and plan production operations, staff allocation for each shiftWork with the Head of Operations to ensure Food Control Plan management and maintenance is completed

Develop and maintain relationships with key personnel within suppliers and distribution partners to ensure effective communication

Manage team members when improvement is required – this may lead to reinforcement training where required, formal discussions and managing disciplinary matters in real-time

In collaboration with the Schools Account Manager, take feedback and make suggestions regarding process and relationship improvements

About You

About You

We are on the hunt for a person with extensive leadership experience who has performed in a similar role working in a highly demanding and high-volume environment. Formal qualifications in the Food Industry is essential.

To be successful, you should be able to demonstrate excellent cooking preparation and organisational skills. You will have experience with managing the recruitment, training, coaching, and conflict resolution across two (2) work shift patterns. Every day will have its challenges, so your great personality, positive spirit, combined with confidence is just as important as your qualifications!
